Saturday, December 3rd from 10 am to 2 pm
Do you love to own autographed books? Do you like to support local authors? Have you ever wanted to meet the author who wrote the book? Here’s your opportunity!
Please join us Saturday, December 3rd for the 1st Annual Olde Towne Book Stroll. Over 20 local authors will be located inside Olde Towne stores along High Street from Middle to Green Streets for you to meet and talk about their books, and at the same time, enjoy Olde Towne decked out for the holidays. You can also have a chance to win great prizes! This is your opportunity to find that perfect gift for the book lover on your holiday shopping list.
Saturday will also be the Book Release Event for Portsmouth’s newest published author, Dr. John Joyce, President of Support Portsmouth Public Art. His first children’s book, entitled I’ve Been Kissed was inspired by the bronze toad statue in front of the Children’s Museum of Virginia. In this heartwarming story, a toad named Bufo, born alone in a dangerous, watery world, learns that a kiss can be magical. Bufo finds friends in a dog, a little girl, and finally his true love. Along the way he learns to be proud of being himself. This story is a must read for children of all ages. (All proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to Support Portsmouth Public Art to assist with one of the 4 upcoming projects planned for 2017.)
The Olde Towne historic district is also the setting for The True Colors Series by local author Allie Marie, in which spirits from the 18th century reach out to a trio of present-day women to uncover secrets hidden since the Revolutionary War. The search for three lost necklaces will forever entwine the contemporary women to their ghostly counterparts, to each other, and to the men they love. Each story in the series has elements of paranormal, suspense, and history—with a touch of romance thrown in. Your Olde Towne Book Stroll will take you on some of the very streets that the characters in this series walk.
This event will feature a wide range of authors and genres including 4 children’s authors and illustrators, young adult action adventure, a mother-daughter team, the Sisters in Crime Writers Group with murder mysteries set in Virginia, 2 Portsmouth historians, Mae Breckenridge-Haywood and Dean Burgess, as well as best selling authors Denise Jeffries and E. Ayers.
Additionally, Dean Burgess, will be giving personal tours of Trinity Church. Support Portsmouth Public Art will have their annual Gently Viewed Art Sale at 304 High Street, and visitors can enjoy the Olde Towne Antiques to Flea Market and Farmer’s Market.
The Olde Towne Courtesy Shuttle will provide transportation between shops. Free parking will be available in the city garages on Middle and County Streets. We hope you will come out and see all that Olde Towne has to offer!
