First Presbyterian Church
515 Court Street • (757) 397-3622
First Presbyterian Church, built in 1877, is stone masonry with original slate shingles imported from Scotland. Grover Cleveland’s father was a minister there from 1826-1830.
At First Presbyterian they believe that all persons are made in the image of God and that all of us have fallen short of perfection. The oft quoted, “this is not a haven for saints but a hospital for sinners” is as true here as most other churches. As a congregation of loving sinners, they welcome all who desire to be more Christ-like; to learn His ways and to follow in His steps.
