Virginia’s oldest African American heritage celebration, the Umoja Festival is in it’s 31st year. It kicks off with the opening ceremonies where the Elders give permission to host the festival. From there, it’s non stop music. Ethnic foods, a marketplace of sculptures, paintings, prints, baskets, quilts and other assorted hand-crafted wares contribute to the ambiance of the Festival.
The festival is FREE to the public and all are welcome. This year’s entertainment line up includes:
Friday May 26
5:30 Opening Ceremony
6:15 Tidewater Drive Band
8:00 Dee Polite and Phenomenal Sounds
9:45 2nd Wynd
2:00 – 6:00 Children’s Activities – Bounce Houses, Crafts + Games
Saturday May 27
2:00. Phazz II Band
3:15 5 Star
4:30 Better By Tuesday
5:45 RaJazz
8:00 Boys II Men at the Pavilion (PAID)
Sunday May 28 Gospel Day
2:00 New Sisters in Christ
3:00 Jones Singers
4:00 Ricky White and Believers Kamp
5:00 The Tidewater Chapter of GMWA Choir
2:00 – 6:00 Children’s Activities – Bounce Houses, Crafts + Games
