Now celebrating their second anniversary, this beautiful bed and breakfast located in the heart of historic Olde Towne Portsmouth, Virginia, has already shown it’s value to customers, and now has a few awards to prove it. The Mermaid’s Porch was recently selected by Hotels.com to receive the “Loved by Guests” gold award. To be selected as a Hotels.com gold award, properties must have received an average customer review score of 4.7 or higher, based on a minimum of 50 reviews as of December 31, 2015.

The Mermaids’ Porch is a lovely Queen Anne Victorian home built by Dr. Parrish in 1898. Inside, the Victorian living room includes a piano and fireplace to accommodate the musically inclined or those that just want to cozy up. The game room includes cable television, but also chess, cards and other board games to entertain yourselves in case of inclement weather or need of a respite. The courtyard includes areas to sit a spell and enjoy nature with the option to relax in our hot tub. Finally, the dining room is where you’ll dine on a full breakfast made from locally procured items from our Farmers Market or other Virginia grown items.

This bed and breakfast has three cozy rooms to choose from for the world weary traveler to tuck in and rejuvenate. The home is decorated in a sophisticated eclectic fashion by the well-traveled innkeeper. The public spaces include the namesake front porch decorated with several unique mermaids and a siren swing where you can while away the hours waving to the friendly neighbors as they walk to the park next door.

And, this was the best accommodation that have ever experienced! Dawn is the perfect hostess and Innkeeper! She has done a marvelous job restoring, upgrading and decorating this grand house that was constructed in 1898! The high ceilings, hardwood floors, doors and staircase are all beautifully done! The room was very comfortable, the AC worked great and Dawn’s gourmet breakfasts were remarkably good! The neighborhood reminded us of Olde Town Alexandria….the older architecture, brick sidewalks were fabulous! There were many interesting shops and excellent restaurants that were within easy walking distance, too! And, access to VA Beach was easy – just a straight shot on I-264! Keep up the great work, Dawn! We are planning to stay at The Mermaids’ Porch in the future! For all of those who do, you will not be disappointed!”

Breakfast was very good, more than enough……what a wonderful place to stay!”
